I like this unit so much because I can appreciate many kinds of music and get a deeper understanding of them. Previously, I liked listening the rhythm of music and payed less attention to the lyrics and their genres. However, after I learned the Same Old Song and Why Pop Music Exactly the Same, I began to pay more attention to the lyrics and the meaning behind the songs. I wanted to know if most of songs becoming same, shallow and negative.
The bad news is that this is true. For example, my little brother like listening music that is very popular among his age. However, nearly 80% songs of his playlist have same style and rhythm. What’s more, I found that the lyrics were so rude that I have no interest to listen. The lyrics were so shallow, they don’t have deep meaning and positive attitude. At that time, I finally have the same idea with the author of Same Old Song. Most people thinking that today’s pop music needed revolution, or the pop music will harm the children’s mental health, what’s more, it would harm the value of most listeners. Though the reason confused me before, it finally make sense.
I think the suitable bumper sticker of this unit is “close to music world” because I not only learned the basic knowledge of music, I also learned the development and present situation of music, all of these can help me close to music more and get a great understanding of music world. For example, I learned that music is very dogged after reading the development of blues. Music keep improving itself during predicament and stay for a long time. It makes me consider that the music world is like our own world. In these world, have competition and cooperation, cultural shock and cultural mixture. Besides, human’s growing also is like music’s development, keep going ahead when facing difficulties.
Before, I didn’t know that music has such great influence on human, it can harm children’s mental health and value, also it can help people remove their bad feelings and calm down. However, I realize it now. I think we need to let music show its great advantages not disadvantages. The first action is do not listen rude and negative music, then drive the revolution of terrible pop music.
